Frank’s love of football took him to Humboldt State University, where he became one of the 1960s Dream Team. He was inducted into HSU’s 2000 Hall of Fame.
Most of his working life he spent in the woods as a logger, shingle sawyer and managing partner of Welco Wood Products. He founded North Bay Tire in Arcata, Calif., and enjoyed interacting with the many customers. He retired from Crown Simpson Pulp mill in Arcata when it closed. After 22 years of managing his rental properties in Eureka and Fields Landing, Calif., he retired for the last time in 2008 and moved to Star, Idaho.
Frank enjoyed snow skiing even though he was a late “bloomer.” He belonged to two dance clubs and loved to dance the night away.
Frank and Karen traveled to Hawaii many times, his favorite being Maui. Cruises became the fun way to visit several countries, including the Caribbean, Alaska, Panama Canal, Transatlantic Voyage to Europe, Australia and New Zealand.
He was preceded in death by his father, mother and two brothers. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Karen; daughter Shelley Sperry of Rio Dell, Calif.; Stacey Hunt and husband Tom of Eagle, Idaho; grandchildren, Shaun Charlton of North Dakota; Valya Rainwater of Chico, Calif.; Hellen Sperry and Chris Sperry of Rio Dell, Calif.; Savannah Hunt and Taylee Hunt of Eagle, Idaho; and two great-grandchildren.
