Obituary: Jeanne Leah Vierra (Sept. 25, 1920 – Nov. 9, 2011)

Jeanne Leah Vierra, 91, passed away on November 9, 2011, in Crescent City, at the Crescent City Nursing and Convalescent Hospital. She was born on September 25, 1920, in San Francisco, to Nathaniel and Sylvia Steinhart. Jeanne was a 65-year resident of Del Norte County.

During World War II Jeanne was a riveter in Portland, Ore. She worked alongside her husband Don Richcreek in commercial fishing and owned a crab stand. Later she worked as a waitress for Glen’s Bakery and several other Crescent City restaurants. Jeanne was a member of the Commercial Fisherman’s Wives, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and a volunteer for the Pink Ladies of the former Seaside Hospital and  Sutter Coast Hospital.

She is survived by her son, Nat J. Steinhart of Sausalito, Calif., and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and other relatives.

Jeanne was preceded in death by her husbands, Don Richcreek and Joe Vierra, and sons Harry and Charles Richcreek.

At Jeanne’s request, no services will be held.  Arrangements are under the direction of Wier’s Mortuary Chapel.
