Obituary: John Delano Borges (March 11, 1936-June 7, 2009) |
John Delano Borges March 11, 1936 - June 7, 2009 John Delano Borges, born on March 11, 1936 in McKinleyville, Calif., passed away on June 7, 2009 in Crescent City at the age of 73 surrounded by his wife, loving daughters and family. He started working on his family’s dairy as a young boy until the age of 16 John then began his career in the lumber industry working in local sawmills until the age of 26 when he moved his family to Crescent City and began working for the family run Prauss logging until 1975. John then went to work for Simpson Timber Company as a grader operator for the road construction crew until January 1999 at which time he retired. John was a talented grader operator who donated his time to keep the Margaret Keating School track graded. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend to all. He shared his love of wood working with family and friends throughout his life. He had a tremendous work ethic and strong family values. On top of his love of carpentry, he was an avid gardener who could make anything grow. John is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Verla Borges, his loving daughters and son-in-laws, Debbie & Robert Rice, Kim & Tim Haban, Penny & Darrell Love, Jr. His grandchildren Sara & Casey Bellinger, Cris & Martha Rice, Adam Rice and Mandy Rios, Daniel Love, Jenna & Krista Haban, Neal Rice and Sage Rice. His great grandchildren Kyle, Tristan & Riley Bellinger, Dylon Rios, Johnny, Aidan & Olivia Rice. His brothers and sisters Mary Price, Olinda Lee, Georgie & Edna Borges, Manuel & Betty Borges, Albert Borges, Sonny Clark, Irene & Frank Arruda. He was preceded in death by his parents Mary & Joseph Borges; his brothers and sisters Joseph, Raymond & Frankie Borges, Alexandria Frietas, Georgina Libolt, Rosie Vetter, Clementine Estrada. John requested no services. A family gathering will be held at a later date. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, please make donations to the John D. Borges Vocational Scholarship Award for the Del Norte High School Scholarship Foundation. Donations can be made at any local branch of CFCU or mail to 660 L Street, Crescent City, Calif. 95531.
