Josephine Agnes Hutchinson passed away in Crescent City, on December 21, 2011, at the age of 98. She was born to her parents John August Bobell and Norma Genevieve Bobell on December 8, 1913, in Vineberg, Calif., and grew up in the Merced area of California’s Central Valley.
Josephine, known to her friends as Josie, married Rolland Hutchinson and raised their three daughters, Bobbi, Linda and Janet, on their apple ranch in the Sebastopol, Calif., area. She loved watching the San Francisco 49ers, camping and hunting with her family and in her later years she developed a love for baseball and former San Francisco Giants catcher A. J. Pierzynski. At the age of 90 she left her home in Sebastopol and moved to Crescent City to live with her daughter Linda and son-in-law Dale. It wasn’t until the age of 95 that she finally put down the power tools and gardening equipment to begin enjoying the relaxation of retirement.
Josephine will be remembered by her surviving children and family members: daughter Bobbi Duffy of Crescent City, daughter Linda Kennedy and son-in-law Dale Kennedy of Crescent City, daughter Janet Hutchinson of Sebastopol, Calif., brother William Thomas Bobell and his wife Myrtice Lillian Bobell of Powder Springs, Ga., and brother Walter Harry Milligan of Placerville, Calif. Josephine was also blessed with six grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Auntie Jo also held a very special place in her heart for her many nieces and nephews who would always drop anything to come to the aid of their auntie and for her special friend Paul (Corky) Kordik, who watched over and assisted her in her later years in Sebastopol.
She was preceded in death by her husband Rolland Keith Hutchinson, father John August Bobell, mother Norma Genevieve (Brandt) (Bobell) Milligan, step-father Walter Hoyt Milligan, sister Genevieve Elizabeth Bobell, brother John Aiken Bobell, half sister Norma Elizabeth ( Milligan) (Quintrall) (Buckingham) Alkema, step-brother Vivian Isaac Milligan, step-sister Grace Etta (Milligan) (Shouse) Shirk and half sister Annie May (Milligan) (Carter) Pasch.
Family and friends of Josephine will remember and celebrate her life at a private event in January 2012. Josephine and her husband Rolland will be interned and laid to rest in the Sebastopol Memorial Lawn Cemetery, alongside their family that preceded them in death. Josephine’s love for life and ability to smile through any situation will be greatly missed by her family and friends and they ask that in lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your favorite charity, passing the memory of Josephine Hutchinson on to others.
