Junie Lee Mattice passed away after losing her battle with cancer on October 22, 2013. She was born on September 30, 1944, in Crescent City. She graduated from Del Norte High School, went on to beauty school in San Francisco and finished her BA at California State University, Chico. She was a Masters candidate in the Arts at CSU, Chico. She was married to Gregory Gene Mattice and had seven children and 12 grandchildren. 

Her children are Rochelle Brown, Eric Oyler, Daraxa Mattice, Wallace Mattice, Eva Mattice, Asa Mattice and Houston Mattice. Her grandchildren are Kaylee DeBock, Sadie O’Rourke, Morek Me-ch O’Rourke, Fox Noel, Ju-la-tra Mattice, Micco Mattice, Alexis Dowden, Taylor Dowden, Ireland Dowden, Paz Gomez, Richard Mattice and Addison Dowden. She is also survived by siblings, many nieces, nephews and cousins. 

Junie was an artist and revolutionist. She believed that people need to change. She expressed many of her beliefs through her artwork. She has traveled to many places and has made many friends. She will be missed greatly by all of her family and friends. Junie’s memorial service will be held at the Yurok Tribal Office, 190 Klamath Blvd., Klamath, CA 95548, on Nov. 2, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
