She was born September 29, 1959, in Torrance, Calif., to Raymond and Edith Cowan, the sixth of six children. She had been a resident of Crescent City since 1981.
Kathy graduated from Northview High in Covina, Calif., in 1977. After high school she married John Slagle and had her first child. Kathy and John decided to make their home in Crescent City to be closer to her parents in 1981. After her second child, John moved back home and Kathy stayed. In 1984 Kathy met, then married, Edwin Maire and gave birth to her third child in December 1992.
Kathy worked at various establishments throughout Crescent City. In 1994 she managed the Junior Bowling league for Crescent City. She loved bowling, shooting pool, working on her crafts, going to the river and taking long walks on the beach.
Kathy was loved by all that knew her and a joy to be around She was a loving daughter, best friend as a sister, a caring mother and an awesome friend. She touched the hearts of many and will be deeply missed. Now you may rest in peace without pain, my sister.
Mrs. Maire is survived by her son James L. Slagle of Crescent City, daughters Edith D. Slagle and Antoinette L. Maire, both of Crescent City, brothers Raymond L. Cowan (wife Michelle), William W. Cowan (wife Debby) of Youngstown, Ohio, Roy (Mickey) Cowan of Dolan Springs, Ariz., sisters Claudia S. Carlson (husband Dave) of Mentone, Calif., Debra R. Musch of Crescent City, close friends Mike Gray, Stephanie Deupree and Carol Watkins, all of Crescent City, and Bill and Connie fo Klamath.
She was preceded in death by her parents Raymond and Edith Cowan, son Jerry Slagle, nephew Robert Martin, niece Roiann Cowan, brother-in-law Michael R. Musch.
Memorial services will be held March 17, 2012, at 1 p.m. at the Moose Lodge in Mentone, Calif.
A Celebration of Life potluck will be held on April 7, 2012, at 2 p.m. at 2003 Malone Rd., Crescent City, to celebrate the time we had with Kathy and the love she spread amongst us all. Friends and family, all are welcome
