Obituary: Margaret Helen Devoir (March 4, 1927 – Sept. 10, 2012)

 Margaret was born to Claire and Myrtle Calkins in Hood River, Ore. She attended grade school in Portland and Hillsboro, Ore., attending high school  at Laurelwood Academy in Gaston, Ore. She went to Walla Walla College in the summer of 1946, where she met her future husband, Robert Devoir.

They married on January 23, 1949, living in Portland and Beaverton, Ore., until September of 1971, when they came to Crescent City to outfit and open the convalescent hospital on Marshall Street. They operated it for 10 years and then sold the facility and moved to Camarillo, Calif., to run their other facility at that time. Margaret retired in 1993, returning to Crescent City in 1999.


She is survived by her husband of 63 years, son Gary and daughter-in-law Jeannie Devoir of San Diego, daughter Linda and son-in-law Brian Ames of Alberta, Canada, son Marc Devoir of Crescent City, son Scott and daughter-in-law Denice, also of Crescent City, brother Ordell and sister-in-law Phyllis Calkins, of Lubbock, Texas, brother-in-law Frank and sister-in-law Esther Losey of Oregon City, Ore.

Margaret had 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Her memorial is tentatively scheduled for the afternoon of September 22, at the Crescent City Seventh Day Adventist Church.
