Obituary: Marie “Sue” Hinshaw Brundin (Apr. 28, 1961 - Jan. 12, 2010)

Marie “Sue” Hinshaw Brundin In loving memory of Marie “Sue” Hinshaw Brundin. She was born on April 28, 1961, in Blue Lake, Calif., and passed away peacefully January 12, 2010 in Crescent City, due to her yearlong battle with cancer.

Sue was a tribal member of the Hoopa Valley Tribe who grew up in Blue Lake  and moved to Smith River,  when she was a teenager to be with her mother. This is where she met the love of her life, Eric Brundin. She was a stay-at-home mom of five kids who loved raising them as well as many others. She started working after they all grew up. Her last job was at Howonquet Head Start prior to her diagnosis with cancer.

Her grandchildren were her pride and joy. She loved to go camping with her family, going to bingo with her niece, yard sales, sun bathing, shopping, cooking, cleaning, decorating her house for the holidays and spending time with family.

She was preceded in death by her grandfather Bill Hinshaw of Blue Lake, grandparents Ted and Isabelle Moorehead of Smith River, mother, Ione Hinshaw of Smith River, her sister Lorriane and brother Wesley.

Sue is survived by her husband of 30 years, Eric, her children: Ericka and husband Ben Jacobs, Laura Brundin, Kimberly and her Husband Chad Leavelle, Thomas Brundin and his wife Edie, and Andrew Brundin. Grandchildren: Tvshiina, Evelynne, and Grace Jacobs, Ryland, Kylie, and Landon Leavelle, and Seaira Brundin. Her father George Hinshaw Sr., brothers and sisters: Gerine, George Jr., William "Bill", Rhonda, Leon, Georgia, Misty, and Jessie and numerous nieces and nephews. She was a daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, and auntie who will be missed dearly.

We are going to miss her loud laughter, great sense of humor, family get-togethers, her generosity, and big heart. Sue loved her children and enjoyed spending time with them.

Services will be held at Wier’s Mortuary Chapel at noon on Saturday January 16, 2010. Immediately following the funeral service, internment will be held at Howonquet Cemetery in Smith River, California. Family and friends will be gathering for a potluck at the Howonquet Community Center in Smith River to celebrate the life of Sue. Please bring a favorite dish.

Arrangements are under the direction of Wier's Mortuary Chapel of Crescent City.
