Mark passed peacefully from this earthly life to Eternal Life with his Heavenly Father on April 28, 2014, at 1:30 p.m., with his wife Sharon, niece Maureen and friend Judy Del Ponte at his bedside at 83 years of age.
He was born at the home of his grandmother Higgins, in Ballandyne, County Mayo, Ireland, to Maura Katherine Higgins Mellett and Martin Joseph Mellett. Baptized into the Catholic faith in Ballandyne shortly after birth. Mark was raised at his family farm in Lakeview, Moylough, County Galway, Ireland.
He immigrated to the United States in 1954 to work for Murphy and Menary cattle company in Klamath. Mark made many friends in Del Norte and Humboldt counties. Special friend and partner for many years, Edwina Langford, her sons Bob and Tom and their families.
He served as County Supervisor District 5 for 12 years before retiring to spend all his time with his and Sharon’s cattle business. Mark was dedicated to his cattle business, from which he retired in 2010 at the age of 80 years. He was director of the Del Norte County Fair Board for 18 years prior to becoming supervisor. He served on the Area Agency for Aging for Humboldt/Del Norte, the district Air Quality Board and California Transportation District Committee.
Mark married Sharon in 1980 and gained two beautiful daughters, Martha Eaton (Robert) and Barbara Atkins (Bruce). Grandchildren Daniel, Aaron and Hadon Eaton; Desiree and Jordan Lazare. Great-grandchildren Levy and Samuel.
Survived by siblings in Ireland Martin (Margurite); Patsy (Paddy Ryan); Pearse (Mary), and Angela (Brendan) Noone, including many nieces and nephews. Wife Sharon of Klamath. Nephews Joseph and Mark and niece Maureen of Crescent City.

Mark had so many friends in Humboldt and Del Norte counties, too numerous to list for fear we would miss someone.
Thanks to loving friends and caretakers Connie Stone and John Wheeler. The love and care they showed Mark is unmeasurable.
