Obituary: Martha Lee Knight (Dec. 16, 1923 – May 3, 2014)

Knight
Martha Lee Knight, a long-time resident of Del Norte County, died Saturday the 3rd of May in Brookings, Ore., at the age of 90.

Born Dec. 16, 1923, in Wartrace, Tenn., Martha dedicated much of her youth to her education, traveling and exploring different parts of the world. Martha received her teaching credentials at a young age and loved nothing more than the children she taught. Martha later moved to San Diego, where she worked as a legal secretary for 30 years, helping many individuals start and maintain successful businesses. While in San Diego, Martha met the love of her life, Joseph Knight. Martha and Joe later moved to Crescent City, where they spent the remainder of their years together. While in Crescent City, Martha was employed as a secretary for the Westbrook family. The Knights met and became close to many dear friends including the Websters, Charitys and Lunds.

Martha loved to fish our local rivers with her beloved husband Joe, and they spent many days together doing so. Martha was a member of the Methodist Church in Crescent City.

She is survived by her sister Minnie Katherine Hastings of Portland, Ore.; nephews Samuel David Heath of San Diego, James Donald Heath of Crescent City, Larry Jones of Portland Ore., and niece Kathy Watters of Warner Robins, Ga., and their families. Martha is also survived by a cousin, Ginnie Mary LaFleur, of Tennessee. She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph Knight.

Graveside services will be held at the Del Norte County Veteran’s Cemetery on Saturday, May 17, at 10 a.m.
