Marvin W. Johnson was born on Feb. 16, 1927, in Graysonia, Ariz., and passed away on Jan. 27, 2014, in Redding, Calif. He served in the Navy during WWII. Marvin was a longtime resident of Del Norte County and retired from Hambro Forest Products in 1989. He will be remembered as an incredible friend and family man. He will be missed by all who knew him. Marvin always had time to help those in need. Even if all he could do was lend a kind word, he always found a way to be part of the solution instead of the problem.
Marvin leaves behind his wife of 65 years, Virgia Johnson; daughters Virginia (Gale) Loveland of Central Point, Ore., and Cathie (Fred) Baumgartner of Spring Creek, Nev.; grandchildren Justin Loveland (Tessa), Angel Loveland, Jeff Mostovoy (Sara), Greg Mostovoy and Alison Mostovoy; great-grandchildren Megan and Ty Loveland, Haven and Ryan Loveland, Hunter and Teal Mostovoy, Colton and Owen Mostovoy; sister Anne Martindale of Crescent City; brothers JR Johnson (Ruby) of Hope, Ariz., and Gene Johnson (Sue) of Glenwood, Ariz. Marvin also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews.
Marvin was preceded in death by his sister Neoma Haggard.
Visitation will be held at Wier’s Mortuary Chapel on Sunday, Feb. 2, 2014, from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m.
Funeral services will be at Wier’s Mortuary Chapel on Monday, Feb. 3, at 11 a.m. with interment to follow at the Del Norte County Veteran’s Cemetery with military honors. Fellowship will follow at the VFW Hall, 810 H Street, Crescent City.
