Obituary: Mary McFeron (1938-2009) |
Mary McFeron (Oct. 15, 1938 - May 1, 2009) Mary McFeron, of Smith River, passed away May1, 2009, at her home following a short illness. A memorial service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, May 9th, at the Smith River United Methodist Church, Beckstead and First St. A potluck meal will follow in the church fellowship hall. Mary was born October 15, 1938, in Los Angeles, Calif.; the only child of Clyde and Lois (Stewart) McMillian. As a child, she moved with her family to Atascadero, Calif.; and as a teenager, to Salinas, Calif. She was a 1956 graduate of Salinas High School. On March 3, 1956, she married Elden McFeron in Reno, Nev. Together, they raised four children. The couple made their home in Campbell, Calif.; where Mary was employed by Memorex. She was busy as a working mother, but found time to be active in her children’s lives. She was involved in their school and scouting activities, and made her girls clothing. In 1975, the McFerons relocated to Smith River to be closer to extended family. Mary worked as a driver for Dial-a-Ride Public Transportation for 11 years, and retired in 2001. She was an outgoing, friendly person, and enjoyed meeting others. She was an excellent cook, and also liked to do ribbon printing, pottery, jewelry making, woodworking, and a variety of creative hobbies, including gardening. Survivors include her husband Elden, of Smith River; two daughters and sons-in-law, Terri and David Williams of Sonora, Calif.; and Barbara and Jake Oliver of Smith River; a son, Donald McFeron, also of Smith River; grandchildren, Amber White; Elden McFeron III; Don “DJ” Oliver; Nicholas McFeron; Jennifer Oliver; Stephanie Stover; Jakie Oliver and Arley Oliver; and 8 great-grandchildren. She was also loved by her 2 dogs Nicky & Tasha. She was preceded in death by her parents, and a son, Elden Jr. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1303 Northcrest Dr., Crescent City, CA 95531.
