Obituary: Matthew W. Charleston (March 12, 1980 – Jan. 3, 2012)

Matthew W. Charleston, formerly of Crescent City, passed away from natural causes at a local care facility in Brookings on January 3, 2012. He was 31.

Matthew was born March 12, 1980, in Crescent City to Daniel and Deborah (Corliss) Charleston. He grew up in Crescent City, playing youth football for 3 years and graduating from Del Norte High School in 1998. Matthew held various jobs but was most recently employed at Del Norte Tire where he worked as a mechanic. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and working on his Mitsubishi pickup.

Survivors include his father, Dan Charleston of Crescent City, paternal grandparents, Charles and Lucille Charleston of Crescent City, maternal grandfather, Lyle Corliss of McKinleyville, sister, Deanna Charleston of Eureka,  and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Matthew was preceded in death by his mother, grandmother and an aunt.

A celebration of Matthew’s life will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 14, 2012, at Grace Lutheran Church, 188 E. Cooper Ave. in Crescent City. Pastor Dan Schlensker will officiate. A reception will follow at the church.
