Michael “Mikey” Levi McGilvary was born in Crescent City, on Sept. 8, 1995, and left this earth for Heaven on Dec. 9, 2013, at the young age of 18.
Mikey was a senior at Del Norte High School, with a heartwarming love of life.
Mikey loved music, swimming, Christmas lights, ice cream, camping and the wind in his hair. He was fortunate to be able to do extensive traveling, which he loved. He visited 46 states (some more than once), traveling by plane, train, automobile, motor home (in the front seat of course), ferry and bus. Mikey’s favorite place on earth was Disneyland, which he visited many, many times. He also visited Sea World, Mount Rushmore, the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, the Empire State Building, the Great Mall of America and Fort McKinley, to name a few.
Mikey is survived by his father, Mike McGilvary, and his loving foster parents, Jeannie and Mickey Reitterer; brother Donald Chaney; foster siblings Emmalee, Charles, Keelenna, Sarah, John, Jasper, Ali, Zachariah, Ryan, Franklin, James, Destiny and Kayla; grandparents Janice Johnson and Edna Reitterer; aunts Mary Jo Duncan and Karen Bachmann; uncle Matthew McGilvary and numerous cousins, aunts, and uncles. He had a large extended family that loved and cared about him. Mikey was preceded in death by his mother, Jamie Chaney, and grandparents Jim and Rosemary McGilvary.
Mikey impacted many people’s lives as he showed others love in many ways.
Graveside services will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery on Monday, Dec. 16, at 3 p.m. A fellowship will follow at the St. Joseph’s Parish Hall from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m.
