Monty Wayne Gonsalves passed away on January 18, 2014, at the age of 72, of complications due to cancer. He was born and resided in Crescent City. Monty was a successful commercial fisherman for over 50 years, owning and operating several local fishing boats.

He was a former Harbor Commissioner and small business owner of Lucy’s Crab Shack. Monty was a member of the Elk’s Lodge #1689 for 44 years. He was an avid hunter and outdoorsman. Monty enjoyed using his wisdom, experience and creativity to help others.

He was preceded in death by his father Joseph Gonsalves, mother Noami Parish, uncle and  mentor  Keith Richcreek and his daughter Brenda Lowden.

Monty is survived by his wife Lucy, his aunt Dorothy Richcreek, sister Penny Wilson, son Joseph and daughters Debbie Scribner, Monica and Cheri Gonsalves. Numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren in addition, a large extended family who will miss him.

Per his wishes, his cremated remains will be scattered at sea. Memorial contributions in Monty’s memory may be sent to Evergreen Lodge, St. Joseph Hospital, 2700 Dolbeer Street, Eureka, CA  95501.
