He came out to California after the war and was hired as foreman for Sturgis Aircraft. It was there that he met the love of his life, Roberta (Holcomb) Billups. Noel and Robbie were married in Glendale, Calif., in 1953. Shortly after their marriage they started their family, Janet, Kirk, Robin and Troy. In the summer of 1964 the family moved to Crescent City and spent the next 50 years building their memories and friendships. Noel retired as foreman for Del Norte School District Maintenance Department, and he and Roberta spent 25 years traveling the United States visiting friends, enjoying our historical sites and monuments.
Noel was preceded in death by Roberta last March and by his youngest son, Troy, in 1975.
Noel is survived by daughter Robin Tromble and son-in-law Lee Tromble of Crescent City, daughter Janet Billups of Portland, and son Kirk Billups of Crescent City. He is also survived by grandchildren Paul Tromble and wife Nichole of Crescent City, Chris Billups and partner Kayla Lyon of Crescent City, Amy Suschnick and husband Randy of Chico and Evan Billups of Portland. His great-grandchildren are Lindsey Early, Christopher Billups, Ahri and Riley Suschnick and Collin Tromble.
Noel was known to all for his love of God, family and country. Noel was always ready to help and always had a hug for anyone who entered his home. There was a deep love of life and commitment to family which he passed on to all.
We will say our good-byes to Noel during a graveside service at the Del Norte County Veteran’s Cemetery, Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2014, at 11 a.m. Fellowship immediately following at the Crescent City Seventh-day Adventist fireside room.
