God and family were most important in her life. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and also “mom” and “Grandma Patti” to many beloved family friends.
Patti enjoyed reconnecting with old friends since returning to Crescent City in 2010. She was a former 32-year resident of Colorado Springs, Colo., and a member of the Divine Redeemer Catholic Church there. Patti chose the retail industry as her career and retired after many years at Ross Stores in Colorado. In Crescent City, she continued to contribute in her “retirement” as a CASA volunteer, a member of the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church Ladies’ Society, a participant in the Senior Center’s Pen Pal Program and a volunteer for Relay For Life.
Patti enjoyed lunching with her friends at the Senior Center, gardening, baking, and making blackberry jelly. One of her joys was making custom fleece blankets for family, friends, babies and charity events. Mom was currently working on blanket No. 72 for her newest great-grandbaby. There are many recipients of her special blankets who will continue to cherish the warmth she gave.
Patti was thrilled to check off one of her “bucket list” items with her recent travels to Ireland, where she located her grandfather’s farm and discovered a previously unknown cousin.
Patti was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Thomas A. Haban, and her parents, Patrick A. Murtha and Doris Murtha Nosal.
She is survived by her nine children: Laura (Buzz Parlasca), Duane (Terry), Karen (Phil Jamieson), Tim (Kim), Lisa (David Thompson), Chris (Melinda), Kathy, Teresa (Mike Love) and Pam; seven grandchildren: Jason (Lisa) and James Haban, Krista and Jenna Haban, Ryan and Andrew Love and Parker Thompson; great-granddaughters Emily Marie Haban and a new great-granddaughter due in September; her brother P. Joseph Murtha; brother-in-law Edward Haban; numerous nieces, nephews and other family members of the Haban and Murtha clan.
Mom’s gentle and kind spirit will be deeply missed by all who love her.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, Aug. 1, 2014, at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 319 E Street, Crescent City. Fellowship at St. Joseph’s Parish Hall will immediately follow.
