Obituary: Robert Ernest Swingley (Dec. 20, 1928 – May 22, 2012)

Robert was born in 1928, in San Francisco, to Ernest and Louise (Goessi) Swingley.

He never compromised his values and enjoyed a full and successful life.

Robert served as an officer in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, and graduated from Stanford University with a degree in economics in 1950, where he went on to earn an MBA. Robert was a business executive in San Francisco for more than 50 years.

Robert was preceded in death by his loving wife Nancy D. (Stone) Swingley.

He is survived by his four cherished children Pamela Swingley, Douglas Swingley, David Swingley, and Susan Bernhardt; grandchildren Stephanie (Swingley) Beard and Denten Edwards; stepgrandchild Scott Orate; and step-great-grandchild Jackson Orate.

Following a private service, the family will host an open house at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, July 28, at the family home on South Bank Chetco River Road.

Robert, with his children as the crew, built the cabin in the early 1970s as a sanctuary for the family to connect and rejuvenate.

We invite friends of Bob, Nancy, Grandma Erma and all the kids to join us in sharing memories.

Donations may be made, in his name, to Lowell Alumni Association, P.O. Box 32000, San Francisco, CA 94132-0009.
