Scott Charles Gibson, born on Oct. 1, 1978, at Mad River Hospital in Arcata, passed away June 14, 2008, in his hometown of Klamath.
He was a Yurok Tribal member and proud of his heritage. Scott spent most of his lifetime in Klamath, but also enjoyed traveling wherever the fish, fun and friends took him. One of the places he had the pleasure of working was in the Virgin Islands, where he spent several years on a parasailing boat and earned his captain's license and one of his many nicknames, "Captain Scottay."
Another dream he fulfilled was traveling to Alaska. He was passionate about life, family, his culture and the outdoors. "Scott Boy" loved fishing, hunting, 4-wheeling, working on his home and just taking in nature. His biggest pride and joy was his 10-month-old baby girl, Aurora Chue-cheesh Nerr-mery. In their time together she became his new fishing partner. They adored one another.
Scott is survived by his mother Candy Gibson; step-father Rob Fassio; daughter Aurora Gibson; sweetheart Jenny Wilhelm; brother Micah Gibson; sisters Kelly Gibson and Nikki Fassio; grandmother Lois Gibson; aunts and uncles Cheryl and Bob Welsh, Lori and Wayne Kopanski, Eileen and Ted Wiehl, Linda "Chub" Hoffman, Maria "Perky" and Amos Tripp and Sandra Lowry; great aunts and uncles Tom Gibson, Marie "Dee Dee" Lawson, Venola "Nummy" Dowd, Donald McCovey and Jerry McCovey; nieces Kameron Gibson and Talise Colegrove; nephew Tyler Gibson, and numerous cousins and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his father Charles Gibson, grandparents Charles Gibson, Walter and Evelina Hoffman, great-grandmothers Marie Gibson and Lena Reed McCovey, and uncle Walter "Skippy" Hoffman.
Public visitation will be held at Wier's Mortuary Chapel in Crescent City on Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., with funeral to follow at 1 p.m. Following the graveside services a celebration of Scott's life will be held at the Yurok Tribal Office in Klamath.
