Obituary: Shirley Richards (May 29, 1941 – May 18, 2012)

Shirley Richards died May 18, 2012, with family and friends there to comfort her. Shirley was born May 29, 1941, in Junction City, Ore. Her family moved to Smith River in 1953. She graduated from Del Norte High School in 1959. Shirley joined the Women’s Air Corps, WACs, in 1959 and served until 1962. She married Murray Richards in 1964 and they were together until his death in 1993. Shirley was trained as an accountant/bookkeeper and worked at several businesses in the local area, the last was at Lucky 7 Casino, from which she retired.

Shirley is survived by her children Dennis and Cheryl Templer of Grants Pass, Ore.; Lisa Richards of Smith River; Jon and Shannon Richards of Crescent City and James Richards of Smith River. Grandchildren TeNaya Fuller, Matthew Honnies and Daniel Honnies of Grants Pass, Ore.; Shelby Eldredge, Raven Eldredge, Ashley Eldredge, Hannah Richards and Thunder Tvrdik of Smith River; Rachele Whitson-Richards, Whitney Whitson-Richards and Tyler Richards of Crescent City; Rocky Richards of Brookings ; great-grandson Brayden Fuller of Grants Pass, Ore.; and sisters Lois and Joy and brother Chuck (Sue).

A Celebration of Life service and potluck will be held on Friday, May 25, 2012, at 4 p.m. at the Howonquet Community Center in Smith River.

Arrangements are under the direction of Wier’s Mortuary Chapel of Crescent City.
