Thomas Bruce BenKinney was born Dec. 8, 1956, in Quakertown, Pa., and died in Eureka on Jan. 14, 2014, at age 57. He graduated Wilkes College, Wilkes Barre, Pa., with a BS in chemistry and graduated Miami of Ohio University, Ohio, with a MS in chemistry. He was employed over the past 30-plus years initially as a chemist and for most of his career as an MNR specialist. He was most recently employed by Toshiba and was Manager of Hospital Equipment Operations at St. Joseph Hospital, Eureka; Mad River Hospital, Arcata; Redwood Memorial Hospital, Fortuna; Fort Bragg Hospital, Fort Bragg; Ukiah Hospital, Ukiah and Shasta Medical Center, Redding. Tom also assisted Toshiba colleagues across the country and in Japan.

Tom is survived by his wife, Ellen J. BenKinney of Kneeland; father Bruce BenKinney of Pennsylvania/Arizona; brother James BenKinney of Pennsylvania; sisters Susan BenKinney Schwab of Pennsylvania and Marie BenKinney of Texas; nephew Jacob BenKinney of Pennsylvania and step-son Robert A. White.  

He was preceded in death by his mother, Arlene BenKinney.

Memorial service will be at Sanders Funeral Home, 1835 E Street, Eureka, on Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014 at 2 p.m. with Pastor Cassie Wyland officiating. A reception will follow at the family home.  

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
