He spent his young life there and was inducted in the Army in 1944. He spent the next few years serving in France, Philippines, and then in Japan after the bomb ended the war. Upon returning home, he and his “buddies” picked up their lives riding Harleys. He settled down working for the Navy on the A-bomb components. He later became a salesman, which was his true calling. He loved selling anything.
He married Rose Marie LaPorte and raised two children; son Michael, who married Patricia and raised three sons: Joel, Matthew and Joshua, who live in Southern California, and daughter Diane, who married husband Michael and lives in Oregon and raised one daughter, Suzanne, who married Lee Kaarup and lives in Arizona.
He married the love of his life, Clara, on Aug. 18, 1979. A big church wedding joined the two families, now to include Dann and Lea and their two children, Vicki and Chuck, and Carla and Larry, and their daughter Jenny.
Upon retirement, Clara and Bill enjoyed life as RVers, meeting and becoming friends with people from around the world. They have spent the past 12 years living in Crescent City, where they have become very active at the Senior Center.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Sada, sister Wilma, brothers Gene and Don. He is survived by his wife, Clara, of their home, brother Lloyd of Carlsbad, Calif., his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many friends. Bill became a Master Mason in July 1960 and has served the lodge in many capacities and received many awards. Per Bill’s request, there will be no services.
