Patricia Karen Blagden, 60, of Brookings, died June 9, 2011, at Curry Good Samaritan Center, in Brookings, of cancer.

She was born Dec. 21, 1950, at Seaside Hospital in Crescent City, to William W. “Bill” Woods and Katherine M. “Obie” Layman Woods.

A lifelong resident of Del Norte and Curry counties,  Karen attended school in Smith River, and graduated from Del Norte High School in 1969.

Karen married Wayne J. Blagden on March 11, 1971. Together they had two daughters – Heidi and Jennifer. They divorced in 1980.

She was employed at the Brookings Inn Best Western as head housekeeper where she enjoyed working with her “girls” and the guests.

Her greatest joy was her granddaughters and family. She also loved gardening and camping up the rivers in the sun.

Karen is survived by her daughter Heidi Blagden and granddaughter Haley Blagden of Brookings, Ore.; daughter Jennifer Richey, her husband Mark and granddaughter Devon Blagden of Shelton, Wash.; partner Randy Probasco of Brookings, Ore.; sister Katie Crawford and her husband Bill of Harbor, Ore.; brothers Kenneth Woods and his wife Barbara, Dennis Woods and his wife Jackie, all of Crescent City.

A private family memorial remembrance will be held at a later date.

Please no flowers. Donations may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
