Obituaries: Ruth McMillan (Dec. 21, 1923 - July 06, 2010)

Read more...Ruth McMillan died July 6, 2010 in Brookings, Ore., at a care home. She was born December 21, 1923, to Elder Theodore Ludwig Thuemler and Carlena Johanna Huetter, in Grants Pass, Josephine County, Ore. Growing up, Ruth worked with her Pastor father, typing his sermons and singing in church and on the radio. After she married Oscar Lee McMillan (Mack), Ruth lived in Crescent City for over 30 years, as a homemaker. The family remembers her as an especially good camper and cook on family outings to Shasta Lake. During those Crescent City years, with the help of her family, Ruth made redwood novelty trucks which she sold to novelty shops up and down the coast as far as San Francisco. The earnings from this enterprise helped to fund her children’s school and college expenses. At retirement she and her husband, Mack, moved to Rogue River, Ore., where they lived out in the country on their “ranch” for about 25 years. After her husband died in 1993, she lived alone for 15 years and finally came back to Crescent City to be closer to her family.

She was a devoted Seventh Day Adventist.  Her late husband, Mack, joined her in some of her outreach work, contributing to orphans overseas. For quite a few years she also provided spiritual material to all the motels in the Del Norte County area and funded mailings to friends and family.
