Obituaries: Mildred Anne Campbell (May 26, 1936 – Feb. 25, 2011)

Read more...Mildred Anne Campbell (nee Thompson) died peacefully on February 25, 2011, in Crescent City. She was 74. She was born on May 26, 1936, in San Diego.

Mildred is survived by many, including her brother Kennie (Tommy) Thompson from Sangerville, Maine, sisters Louise Gomez and Paula Flores both of Hermet, Calif., and sister Dorothy (Dottie) Thompson of Ore.

Her children Yvonne Campbell and David Campbell, and Violet Howser, all of Crescent City, Connie Blodgett of Spring Valley, Calif., Kennie Campbell of Vancouver, Wash., and Yvette Caron of Sparks, Nev.

Obituaries: Jeanine (Williams) Pritchett (Jan. 4, 1942 – Feb. 24, 2011)

Read more...Jeanine (Williams) Pritchett, died Feb. 24, 2011, at Sutter Coast Hospital after a short illness. Born in McGee, Arkansas on Jan. 4, 1942 , the Williams family moved to Del Norte County in 1956. She is best remembered as owner of the Dock Cafe before becoming head cook at the county jail. She was employed there until her retirement.

Jeanine is survived by her husband Clifford Pritchett, sisters Pamp Fincher of White City, Ore., Dorthy Garner of Cave Junction, Ore., Vickie McClure of Klamath Falls, Ore., brothers Sam Williams of Brookings, Ore., Raymond Williams of Lebam, Wash., Gilbert Williams of White City, Ore., and Nick Williams of Crescent City.

Obituaries: Michael Dolan Campbell (Nov. 25, 1947 – Feb. 23, 2011)

Read more...Mike was born November 25, 1947, in Memphis Tenn. He grew up in Memphis, graduated high school in New Jersey and went into the Air Force after high school. His final military station during Vietnam was at the Klamath Air Force base, where he discovered the beauty, charm and wonders of the North Coast.

Mike settled in Crescent City, becoming an avid outdoorsman spending most of his time fishing on the Smith, Klamath and Chetco rivers. Many more salmon and steelhead will spawn due to Mike’s passing.

Obituaries: Maxine Dee Ett Prauss (Aug. 12 1926 – Feb. 16, 2011)

Read more...Maxine was born Aug. 12, 1926, and passed peacefully at home on Feb. 16, 2011. Max was born and raised in a cattle ranching family in Lyons, Colo. She came west as a young woman and settled in Oregon. It was there that she met and fell in love with Ed Prauss, who was to become her life-long husband and soul mate.

After they were married, Ed and Max settled in Oregon, where Ed first began working as a logger. After several years, Ed, Max and their family moved to Blocksburg in eastern Humboldt County, where Ed continued to work as a logger. In the 1950s they finally moved to and settled in Crescent City, where they stayed for the remainder of their lives. Ed became owner of Prauss Logging and Max’s life was consumed with the joy of raising her girls and working full time as a homemaker. Together she and Ed raised two daughters, Laurie and Shirley. Education was highly valued by Max and Ed, and it was a source of enormous pride that both daughters and their children were university graduates.

Read more...Art was an unforgettable man who never met a stranger. He was born October 23, 1935, in Ohio, moved to Beaverton, Ore. as a toddler and moved to Del Norte County more than 35 years ago. He was a wood sculptor and hydra stone carver. He would sit on the side of the road and carve just about anything you wanted. He leaves many friends and family and will be missed by all.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Arnold, sister Arlene and sons Ralph, John  and Todd.

He is survived by long-time partner Patty Stone, sons Robert and Ricky, and daughters Robin, Diane, Jamie, Ronni and Cindy. Also numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many friends.

Obituaries: Robert Lansing Allen (Jan. 3, 1962 – Feb. 18, 2011)

Read more...Robert “Bobby” Allen of Crescent City passed away unexpectedly at the age of 49, on Feb. 18, 2011. He was born and raised in Crescent City. Bobby was humorous and often sarcastic, but that is why we loved him so much. You could always count on him for a good joke and to put a smile on your face.

He spent many years working in the logging industry for companies such as Three Star Logging, Marvin Burr Logging and C&L Logging. He then went on to drive truck for his family business Gus Allen Trucking. In his free time Bobby enjoyed golfing and hunting trips with his son James and close friends Jim and Kyle Loftin. He loved rooting for his favorite football team, the Minnesota Vikings, and spending Sundays with his mother Jeanne watching NASCAR.
