Obituaries: Josephine Amelia Babich (Aug. 17, 1914 – Dec. 10, 2010)

Josephine Amelia Babich, born August 17, 1914, in Crescent City of Swiss immigrants, died December 10, 2010, at the age of 96. She was a life-long resident of Del Norte County.

Josephine was a devoted homemaker, wife, mother and grandmother. She will be deeply missed by her family. The past several years Josephine was a resident of Crescent City Nursing and Rehab, where she received loving care and made many friends.

Obituaries: Ethel A Tietjen (Dec. 30, 1918 – Dec. 7, 2010)

Ethel A. Tietjen, 91, of Crescent City, died December 7, 2010, in Eureka after a brief illness. She went with Our Lord peacefully, surrounded by family.

She was born on December 30, 1918, in Culbertson, Mont., daughter of the late Thomas P. and Ellen Nelson. Ethel was one of five siblings; brother, Richard Nelson and sisters Eleanor L. Nelson, Doris May and the late Mildred M. Johnson. Ethel was the widow of the late Martin F. Tietjen. She and Martin had been residents of Crescent City for 51 years.

Obituaries: Robert Lee Clark (Sept. 23, 1934 – Dec. 5, 2010)

Robert Lee Clark, 76, passed away on December 5, 2010, in Crescent City. He was born on September 23, 1934, in Cascade Locks, Ore. Robert moved with his wife and three children to Del Norte County in 1997. He was a veteran having served with the U.S. Navy during the Viet Nam era.

Robert enjoyed being a barber by profession. The family enjoyed walking on the beach, climbing trees and back yard barbecues. You could often catch him working in the garage keeping the cars running while the children were growing up.

Robert is survived by his children Vickie, Michelle and Jason, and from a prior family, son Robert and daughter Cindy.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Nancy Clark, who passed away on August 22, 2009.

Private family services will be held.  Arrangements are under the direction of Wier’s Mortuary Chapel of Crescent City.

Obituaries: Riley “Joe” Holiman (Dec. 14 1927 – Dec. 5, 2010)

Riley “Joe” Holiman, 82, passed away on December 5, 2010, in Crescent City. He wasborn in Clarks, La., on December 14, 1927. Having moved from Fort Bragg, he was a 40-year resident of Del Norte County. Joe retired as a saw filer from the lumber industry where he worked for 30 years.

The hobbies Joe enjoyed included fishing, hunting, gardening, traveling and his family. Joe was also a man with a heart for the Lord and was a member of the New Life Community Church.


Obituaries: Pamela June Bradshaw ( June 24, 1959 – Dec. 3, 2010)

Pamela June Bradshaw, 51 passed away after a lengthy illness on December 3, 2010, in Crescent City. She was born  on June 24, 1959, in Wichita, Kan., the youngest of five children. A  Del Norte County resident, Pamela moved here from Kansas when she was 8 years old. 

She enjoyed spending time outdoors and especially the time spent camping with her family. Pamela also had a special relationship with her nieces and nephews. She will be remembered for caring and spending  quality time with all her family members whom she loved dearly.

Obituaries: Karon Rae Hatfield (Oct. 17, 1952 – Oct. 3, 2010)

She was preceded in death by her sister Sharon Lee Hatfield in 2007, and Shelley (Hatfield) MacDonald.

She is survived by her loving and caring partner of 22 years Richard Zatek, her mother Maryann Hatfield of Klamath, her father and stepmother Gordon and Mary Hatfield of East Bridgewater, Mass., her brothers Walter O. Hatfield of Crescent City and Richard Hatfield of Los Angeles, her sisters Jean O'Brien of Orange, Mass., Donna Jo Lin and husband Chi-Wei Lin of Trinidad, Tari Ann Hatfield of Smith River, and nephews Jordan O. Freese of Blue Lake, Spencer Godfrey of Eureka, Tim Zatek of Sacramento, nieces Audrey Godfrey and Kaitlin M. Freese of Crescent City, Hanna L. Freese of Vancouver, Wash., and Jennifer Adams of Hamburg, Germany.

Obituaries: John Aguiar (Feb. 26, 1914 – Dec. 2, 2010)

John Aguiar, 96, a life-long resident of Del Norte County, passed away on December 2, 2010, in Crescent City. He was born on February 26, 1914. 

A veteran of WWII, he served with the Army.  John was a truck driver for 40 years, having driven for Texaco, Rellim Mill and Big Loaf Bread.  He was a life  member of St. Joseph Catholic Parish.

John was an avid gardener and enjoyed spending many hours working outdoors. Family and friends all commented on the beauty of his property. John’s other hobbies included fly fishing and he was an avid bowler for many years.
