Keith Gerald Richcreek, 85, of Crescent City passed away on Feb. 19, 2010, in Myrtle Creek, Ore. He was born in Jamestown, N.D. on November 3, 1924, to Art and Bertha Richcreek.

He joined the Army directly out of high school and represented the United States in World War II.

Obituaries: Bernice Elaine Brustol (Jan. 12, 1913 - Feb. 10, 2010)

Bernice Elaine Brustol passed away on peacefully at her home at the age of 97, going home to be with Jesus February 10, 2010. Bernice was born on January 12, 1913, to Gus and Marie DePeaux (White) in Green Bay, Wis. She was a 39-year resident of Del Norte County. After graduation from high school she met and married Walter Ducat in 1931, both of Belgian parents. They raised their six children in Green Bay until the latter part of WW II when they moved to Vallejo, Calif., to work in the shipyard at Mare Island. Bernice worked as a metal cutter.

After the war ended they moved to Klamath Falls, Ore., for 14 years. In 1960 they sold their home and moved to a dairy farm they purchased in Wisconsin Unfortunately Bernice lost her husband in 1962 in an auto accident. She sold the farm and moved back to Klamath Falls to be with her children.

Barbara Ann (Risi) Brattain, 87, of Brookings, passed away Feb 12, 2010, in Brookings.

She was born on March 24, 1922, in Oakland, to Charles and Florence Risi.

Barbara was a devoted wife to Ed, her husband of 56 years; loving mother and grandmother to their son, Dan – one of her biggest joys; daughter-in-law, Kathy and their boys; Zach Brattain and fiancee, Patricia Moen and Jake Brattain; step-daughter, Sandra Holden and husband, Bob and their children, Teyrl Andrews and husband, Phil; Shane Holden and wife, Anne and their children; Alexis and Ian; Marel Gerke and husband, Grant and their children, Morgan and Cole, and Scott Holden; stepdaughter, Pat Johnson and husband, Gene and their boys, Grant Johnson, Pete Johnson and partner Richard, and Mike Johnson and wife, Petrece and their children, Nicole and Hunter. She is also survived by numerous other relatives and many, many friends.

Obituaries: Francis (Fred) Henry Butler (Mar. 10, 1914 - Feb. 6, 2010)

Francis (Fred) Henry Butler passed away of natural causes February 6, 2010, just 32 days short of his 96 birthday. His last residence was at the Macklyn House in Brookings. He was born in Smithfield, Rhode Island on March 10, 1914, to Fredrick Alfred Butler and Emma A Bernard.

In 1931, at the age of 17, he left home to join the Navy. He was very proud of his Navy service, serving on the battleships New York, Pennsylvania and Nevada. He always said he didn’t join the Navy to see the world; he joined to have a place to sleep and get three meals a day, this being the time of the Great Depression. In the meanwhile, he did get to see the world. He traveled to Cuba, Panama, Hawaii, Philippines and Japan.
