Obituary: Betty Timmer (Nov. 19, 1920 – May 08, 2015)

Betty Timmer, 94, died May 8, 2015, in Redding, California. She was born Nov. 19, 1920, in Michigan and was a 40-year resident of Del Norte County. Betty was best recognized by locals as being the lady with two large German Shepherds, walking rain or shine on Pebble Beach, picking up trash.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband Arthur R. Timmer, who retired as superintendent of Del Norte County Schools and was a marine captain veteran of World War II in both Europe and the Pacific. She is survived by her children Thomas Timmer and Sherri Smithson, both of Crescent City, and Mary Kepon of Palo Cedro, California, and grandchildren Danny, Russel, Breana, Hunter, Davis and Timolin.

Obituary: David H. Weeks (July 2, 1939 – Oct. 24, 2015)

David H. Weeks, 76, died Oct. 24, 2015, in Crescent City. He was born July 2, 1939, in Elko, Nevada.

David leaves his wife Mary and three daughters; Margaret, Tammy and Alice; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; plus many other family members.

Celebration of life services will be held Nov. 22 at 5 p.m. at North Coast Bible Church located at 8th Street and Wendell Street with finger foods to follow. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Alzhiemer’s Association, 2290 North 1st St. 101, San Jose, California 95131.

Obituary: Maynard Leroy Dalbec (February 9, 1930 – November 8, 2015)

 Maynard Leroy Dalbec, 85, passed away on Nov. 8, 2015. He was born Feb. 9, 1930 in Wakefield, Michigan. Maynard was a 61 year resident of Del Norte County. A U.S. Army veteran, Maynard served his country during the Korean Conflict as a medic and an x-ray technician in Japan. After returning from the service, he picked up where he left off as a timber faller. Maynard was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He later became co-owner of Lanning Motor Parts here in Crescent City. Maynard loved St. Joseph Catholic Church and was very involved with the parish and did a lot of work at St. Joseph’s school. He will be remembered for being an amazing husband and dad and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife Doris Dalbec of Crescent City; children Shawn Dalbec, Denise (Steven) Hemmingsen and Stacy (LeAnn) Dalbec all of Crescent City. Siblings Muriel Northrip, Marlene Mills, Carlene Arnold, Lois Slinkard, Betty McKean and Donald Dalbec. He also leaves behind 10 grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Obituary: Delbert Wesley Edwards (June 25, 1942 – Nov. 6, 2015)

 Delbert Wesley Edwards, 73, of Smith River, passed away on Nov. 6, 2015 at Sutter Health in San Francisco.

He was born in Salem to Frank and Esta Edwards on June 25, 1942.

His family later settled in Del Norte County where he graduated Del Norte High School in 1960. He then worked at Simonson’s Lumber Mill in Smith River until going into the Navy.

Virginia “Ginny” Louise Walworth, 73, died Nov. 11, 2015, in Brookings. She was born March 3, 1942, in Stockton and was an 11-year resident of Del Norte County.

Memorial Services will be held 11 a.m. Monday at Wier’s Mortuary Chapel.

Obituary: Jerry “Butch” Rycraft (January 25, 1945 – November 1, 2015)

Born Jan. 25, 1945 to John and Jeanne Rycraft of Klamath, California. Graduated from Del Norte County High in 1962. A business owner in Arcata, California, for many years. Died Nov. 1, 2015 in Washington. Survived by his wife, Sally Siler of Grayland, Washington; his sister, Joan Rycraft of Medford, Oregon; a daughter, Jennifer Rycraft of Crescent City, California; a son, John Rycraft of Ontario, California; and several grandchildren and great grandchildren. No services will be held. Cremation with his ashes scattered off the Pacific Coast are planned.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Del Norte County Veteran’s Cemetery.

Obituary: Billy Preston (Feb. 18, 1962 – Oct. 30, 2015)

 Billy Preston, 53, of Klamath, passed peacefully in his sleep. Our brother Billy would greet each day with a healthy heartfelt good morning shout to his friends and neighbors. He was intelligent, kindhearted and fun loving. A jokester, a great story teller and a master of inventions. He loved gold panning, fishing, camping and diving for abalone. He enjoyed gambling, Elk Valley knew him as ”BIG MONEY.” He will truly be missed by all.

During past Blackberry Festival he totally enjoyed being the Horseshoe Tournament Overseer and, much to his chagrin, he also enjoyed stamping children’s activity cards to receive a free prize.

A celebration of life will be held at Crivelli’s in Klamath today, Nov. 7, from 3 p.m. - 6 p.m. Contact sister Linda Witvoet at 707-482-0385 or sister Janine Preston at 707-954-2629.

Obituary: Alice Tosio Desjardin (June 28, 1927 – Oct. 31, 2015)

 Alice Tosio Desjardin, born June 28, 1927, passed away on the eve of All Saints’ Day, Oct. 31, 2015. She was a loving mother, homemaker, chef, gardener, forager, and member of the Emblem Club for over 55 years. Her kindness, generosity and creativity were well known in the Del Norte community.

She was preceded in death by her mother Maria Tosio, father Louis Tosio Sr., brother Louis Tosio Jr., granddaughter Randee Lee, and son-in-law Nick Desjardin. She is survived by her daughter Marie Desjardin, granddaughter Ramie Gallagher, grandson-in-law Kevin Gallagher, and great grandchildren Darren and Natalee Gallagher of Sacramento; and son Dr. Dennis Desjardin, daughter-in-law Dr. Wipapat Ann Kladwang, and grandson Spenser Desjardin of Pacifica.

Obituary: Margaret “Pidge” Reiber (August 13, 1944 – November 2, 2015)

Margaret “Pidge” Reiber
 Margaret died on Nov. 2, 2015 at home surrounded by her loved ones after a long illness.

Margaret was born and raised in Orland, California to Adrian and Sadie Brantley. She graduated from Eureka High School in 1962 and worked as a hair stylist and secretary until her health declined. She lived in Orland, Eureka, and Crescent City, calling Crescent City “heaven on earth.” She was known for her kindness, honesty, intelligence, perseverance and beauty.
