Death Notice: Michael Lee Long

Michael Lee Long, born Nov. 15, 1939, in Los Angeles, died at the age of 74 on March 14, 2015, in Crescent City. He was a 16-year resident of Del Norte County.

At Michael’s request, no services will be held.


Arrangements are under the direction of Wier’s Mortuary Chapel.

Death Notice: Lois M. Reynolds

Lois M. Reynolds died on March 14, 2015, in Crescent City, at the age of 86. Born July 14, 1928, in Madison, Wisc., she was a 36-year resident of Del Norte County.

At Lois’ request, no services will be held.

Death Notice: Bobby Ray Freeman

Bobby Ray Freeman, born Dec. 12, 1933, in Binger, Okla., died March 10, 2015, in Crescent City. He was 81 years old.

A memorial tribute will be held on Saturday, March 21, at 11 a.m. at Wier’s Mortuary Chapel.

Obituary: Bobby Ray Freeman (Dec. 12, 1933 – March 10, 2015)

Bobby Ray Freeman, born Dec. 12, 1933, in Binger, Okla., to Kymega Chub Freeman and Hazel Mae Thomas Freeman, died March 10, 2015, in Crescent City. He was 81 years old.

His family came to Klamath when Bob was 15 years old, and it was there he met his wife of 56 years, Elizabeth Hudson, at the Trees of Mystery in 1956. They married in Eureka and  had three children, Monroe, Patrick and Parthenia. In 1964, one week before the  Klamath river flood, Bob transferred to Klamath to manage the Simpson veneer plant. When the flood hit, Bob drove the family through the back logging roads to Highway 101 and got them safely to Crescent City,  where  Bob and Liz made their home since. Bob managed plywood and veneer plants in Del Norte County and spent some years commercial fishing, then retired as a mechanic in 1996.

Obituary: Richard “Joe” Ruppert (Aug. 12, 1927 – March 10, 2015)

Brookings resident Richard “Joe” Ruppert, 87, formerly of Bensenville, Ill., retired driver and crane operator at Milwaukee Railroad for almost 25 years, passed away peacefully March 10, 2015, in Brookings. 

He was preceded in death by wife Lois M. Ruppert; sister Evelyn (the late Martin) Bachelor; and parents Gustave Adolph Ruppert and Lillian M. Ruppert (nee Burmeister). 

Death Notice: Ramon Jonathan Cazares

Ramon Jonathan Cazares, 40, died in Medford Ore., on Monday, Feb. 16, 2015. Born to the late Ramon and Rita Cazares on Nov. 16, 1974, in Crescent City. Ramon lived the majority of his life in California before enjoying his last few years in Oregon.

Obituary: Donna Mae Hetherington (Oct. 2, 1943 – March 6, 2015)

Devoted wife, amazing mother and grandmother, Donna Mae Hetherington, born Oct. 2, 1943, went home to be with the Lord and her mother, Helen White, on March 6 at the age of 71. 

Donna is survived by her husband, Steve Hetherington; children Richard, Daryl, Randy and Melissa; grandchildren Danielle, Richie, Toni, Rachelle, Heather, Jamie, Dacota and Keaton; great-grandchildren Joclynn, Logan, Isiabella, Caroline, Layla and Brantly, as well as many other loved family members. 

Obituary: Harold Stanford Reyman (July 19, 1923 – Feb. 26, 2015)

Harold Stanford Reyman
Born to Charlie and Eva Reyman in Cushing, Iowa, on July 19, 1923, Harold Stanford Reyman went to his heavenly residence Feb. 26, 2015. Harold was a faithful Christian since Nov. 19, 1938, when he was baptized into Christ in Brookings, S.D.

In 1943 he left to study for the ministry at San Jose Bible College, where his brother Rodney Reyman was attending. While registering, he met Imogene Ross of Coos Bay, Ore., whom he married May 29, 1944.

Death Notice: Welcome Morningstar Lipparelli

Welcome Morningstar Lipparelli passed away at her home in Brookings on March 3, 2015, at the age of 87, surrounded by her family. She was born April 20, 1927, in Brookings.  

A service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 11, at Safe Harbor Christian Fellowship, 15786 Hwy. 101 S. in Harbor. A potluck fellowship time will follow at the church.

Obituary: Leola Ruth Lockwood Anderson Hogue Goit (Sept. 25, 1918 – Feb. 23, 2015)

Leola Ruth Anderson Goit
Leola Ruth Anderson Goit was born Sept. 25, 1918, in Florence, Ore., and passed away Feb. 23, 2015, in Hospice care at the home of her granddaughter in Salinas at age 96. 

She was the daughter of the late Fred and Alfreda Lockwood. She grew up in Tacoma, Wash., and attended Pacific Lutheran College in nearby Parkland to become a teacher. While there she was a member of the Choir of the West, with which she toured down the West Coast in 1939, singing at Treasure Island for the San Francisco World’s Fair and culminating in a concert of 2,000 voices at the Hollywood Bowl, directed by F. Melius Christiansen. She graduated from the teacher preparation program in 1940 and began teaching at Lacamas School just outside of Tacoma.
