Death Notice, Sept. 17, 2015

Cordelia Fugate Klinger died in Crescent City on Sept. 11, 2015. She was born April 28, 1920, in Silver Cliff, Wisconsin.

Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday at noon at Faith Christian Assembly of God Church, 1st and Brookings, in Smith River. Interment has taken place at the IOOF Memorial Cemetery in Crescent City.

Fugate Klinger
 Cordelia Fugate Klinger, born April 28, 1920 in Silver Cliff, Wisconsin, passed away at Crescent City Rehabilitation and Nursing in Crescent City, on Sept. 11, 2015. She moved to Crescent City in 1953 and was employed most of her working years cooking at the Villa Capri and The Landing restaurants. “Cordy” also cooked at Seaside Hospital, Crescent City Convalescent Hospital and at the Del Norte Senior Center. Over the years, she attended the following churches in Crescent City: Oceanview Baptist, Brother George Wickizer’s Church, Grace Lutheran Church, Assembly of God and Faith Christian Assembly of God in Smith River.  Cordy was married to Earl Fugate in 1938 and later married Joe Klinger in 1986.

 John H. Maxson was born on Aug. 24, 1943 and slipped away on Aug. 23, 2015, one day before his 72nd birthday.He was born in Port Monmouth, New Jersey, the only son of Elmer and Mildred Maxson. His father was a commercial fisherman and his mother a teacher. John attended Bentley College on a football scholarship and graduated with his B.A. in history. John served in the Vietnam War in the early 1970s. When he returned he attended the University of New Mexico and received his Masters degree in physical education.

Robert “Bob” Francis Harrison, 87, died Aug. 27, 2015. He was born Sept. 4, 1927, in San Antonio, Texas. 

He was a 55-year resident of Del Norte County. Arrangements are by Wier’s Mortuary Chapel.


Obituary: Alice Thomas (April 2, 1934 – Aug. 26, 2015)

Read more... Alice Thomas born April 2, 1934 in Lewiston, Idaho passed away on Aug. 26, 2015 in Crescent City, at the age of 81. She was a 51-year resident of Del Norte County. Most knew her best as their friendly mail carrier in the 70s, 80s, and 90s, having worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 32 years.

Alice was simply known as “Grams” to her grandchildren and most of their friends. Her home was always filled with the laughter of kids playing. She will forever be missed. To the moon Alice.

Alice is survived by her daughters Toni Roberts, Charlene Van Pelt both of Crescent City; Pauline Cozby of Deer Lodge, Montana, Debbie Koch of Lusk, Wyoming and son Stanley Knowles, son-in -law Darcy of Crescent City, stepson Doug Thomas of Sacramento, and stepdaughter Deniece Thomas of Rio Linda; 14 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

Leslie Clayton Moen
 Leslie Clayton Moen, “Les” passed away Aug. 22, 2015 after a short illness. He was born June 28, 1938 in New Westminster, B.C., Canada to Muriel and Russel “Mo” Moen. After completion of his education in the early 50s, the Moen family emigrated to Alameda where Les and Mo entered into the construction and painting industry.

Les married Sandra Balbini in 1960 and they had one son, Leslie Moen Jr. in 1961. In 1969 Aubrey “Buddy” Horne joined the family. Very shortly there after the Moen family traded equities in properties in Alameda for North Crest Trailer City in Crescent City, and relocated.

Les Moen became active in the community, notably in the Crescent City Lions Club and the Elks Lodge, where he made life long friends.


Obituary: James M. (Jim) Tillson (Nov. 20, 1951 – Aug. 24, 2015)

 Jim is survived by his wife Karen C. Tillson; daughters Jennifer Oki of Utah and Rebbeca Tillson; son Nicolas Tillson; grandsons Joey Cypret and Mason Oki; mother Mary Tillson; sister Janice Tillson; and many nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his father Jack Tillson and brother Lee Tillson.

A small gathering will be held at The Club in Klamath on Sept. 20, 2015 at 2 p.m. Bring your favorite dip.

Dorthy (Sissy) Grossi, 79, died Aug. 25, 2015. She was born March 14, 1936, in Caney, Oklahoma.

Viewing will be held at Wier’s Mortuary Chapel from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today. Memorial services will begin at 2 p.m. and interment will follow at the IOOF Memorial Cemetery in Crescent City.
