Obituary: Mary Ann Fisher (1954 – 2015)

Mary Ann Fisher
 Mary Ann Fisher, aka Mary Ann Fisher-Brooks, 61, passed away at a Crescent City residence on Sept. 6, 2015. She died of natural causes.

Mary, born in New Jersey, made her way to the West Coast to make a life for herself. With little formal education, she had street smart survival skills that made her the person she was. Strong and resourceful, she accomplished many personal missions. She owned her own landscaping business for several years, working in Crescent City and Hiouchi. In the final years of her life, she worked as a personal caregiver in Del Norte County.

Obituary: Juanita D. Snider (Dec. 18, 1919 – Oct. 13, 2015)

Juanita Snider
 Juanita D. Snider passed away on Oct. 13, 2015 at her home at the age of 95. She was born in Port Orford, Oregon on Dec. 18, 1919. She married Harvey Snider on July 1, 1938, they were married 53 years and had 10 children together. Juanita was a grocery clerk for 40 years and retired in December 1981. She attended First Baptist Church and was a life member of the VFW Auxiliary serving as president and chaplin. Juanita enjoyed bowling, cheering on her Niners and being around family and friends.

She is survived by her children Maxine Russell of Puyallup, Washington; Rodney Snider, Lorita Hallock and Vicki Goodman, all of Crescent City. She leaves behind her 18 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She is also survived by her sisters Carol Adams, Roberta Kerr and numerouse nieces and nephews.

Obituary: Richard Allen Dickinson (June 19, 1951 – Oct. 13, 2015)

 Richard Allen Dickinson of Crescent City, passed into eternal rest on Oct. 13, 2015 at his home. He served his country in the Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. He was preceded in death by his parents Lester and Helen Dickinson, brother William Dickinson and sister Jean Dickinson. He is survived by his sister Leslie Patrow of Alabama, sons: Jason Dickinson and spouse Heather and grandkids Ashli and Cody Dickinson of Crescent City; Richard Dickinson and spouse Kelly, and granddaughter Crystal Dickinson of Crescent City; and Lester Dickinson of Washington, and daughter Lonnie Rodriguez of Southern California.

Richard loved to ride his bike around town and was determined to rain or shine. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Obituary: Jesse L. Borrego

Jesse L. Borrego, 83, passed away peacefully on his birthday, Aug. 24, 2015 surrounded by family. He is survived by his wife Shirley, his children Sandra Biggs, Randall Winter, Tamara Holzeman, Kimberly Gomez, Christopher Borrego, and their spouses. Jesse also leaves his sister Virginia Piña, her husband Simon, and sister-in-law Rosie Borrego, 11 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Jesse was preceded in death by his parents, Jesus and Margarita Borrego, his brother Gilbert, his sister Beatrice Loera, and brother-in-law Manuel Loera.

Juanita Debra Snider, 95, died Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2015, in Crescent City. She was born Dec. 18, 1919, in Port Orford.

Obituary: Tawnya Lynn Richards (Dec. 7, 1965 – Oct. 6, 2015)

Read more... Tawnya Lynn Richards, of Smith River born Dec. 7, 1965 passed away Oct. 6, 2015. She attended local schools and was a lifelong resident of Del Norte.

Tawnya loved her boys and grandbabies with all her heart. She had many adopted nieces and nephews and was a major part of all their lives. She loved all her cousins and friends. Her favorite sayings: “I Love You” and “Turtle Power.” She had a big heart and a smile to light up the room. Tawnya was also a big daddy’s girl who loved and cherished her dad. She was one of kind and will be truly missed.

Obituary: Maxine G. Mouser (Aug. 23, 1925 – Oct. 4, 2015)

 Maxine G. Mouser, age 90, went to be with the Lord Oct. 4, 2015, in Medford. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend to all who came into contact with her. She was born Aug. 23, 1925, in Philomath, Oregon, to George W. Henderson and Luella (January) Henderson. She had three siblings: Mary (Jackie) Babcock (deceased), Rodney Henderson (deceased), and Twila Muetzel. She grew up in logging camps throughout Oregon, especially in the Willamette Valley area. In high school she lived in Detroit, Oregon, where she met Theo William (Bill) Mouser. They were married Dec. 28, 1942, in Grants Pass and had four children: sons Theo William (Buddy) Mouser Jr., Michael James Mouser, Garry Robert Mouser and daughter Diana Louise Mouser. Bill and Maxine moved in 1950 to Klamath, where they raised their family and made many lifelong friends.

Lois Anne Governor-Urquhart, 58, died Sept. 27, 2015, in Burnaby, British Columbia, where she resided. She was born (March 17, 1957) and raised in Crescent City.

Services for friends and family in the U.S. will be announced at a later date.

Obituary: Elaine M. Moorehead (Feb. 5, 1947 – Oct. 3, 2015)

Elaine Moorehead
 Elaine M. Moorehead, born Feb. 5, 1947 of Crescent City, passed away Oct. 3, 2015. Elaine graduated Del Norte High in 1964. She was very athletic and had earned a Physical Education degree at San Francisco State University in 1975. She returned to Smith River with her three children. Elaine worked as an instructional aide and a softball coach for the Del Norte County Unified School District. Her passions were sewing, studying history and Indian law. She valued and motivated youth to continue their education and participate in their Native culture. Her family is most proud of the dance dress she created to participate in the local tribal ceremonies along with her many other tribal contributions.

She is survived by her three children, Mendy Hinshaw (Bill), Ronnie Owen, and Wade W. Owen (Deanna); brother, Darrell Moorehead; grandchildren: Kyle Hinshaw, Matthew Hinshaw, Wade and Amber Owen, De-Sre’ Richards, River Richards and Ashlee, Race Richards, Dessirae Stringfellow, Ashley Anderson, Jessamine Nail, Kimmy, Chase, Blake and Alexis Owen; and four great-grandchildren: Kaydence, Layton and Paisley Owen, Harmony Elaine Richards; and many cousins.

Kristina Marie Lane Nail, 36, of Oakdale, died Sept. 28, 2015, in Odale. She was born May 29, 1979, in Eugene, Oregon, and grew up in Crescent City.

Maverick Cheyenne Keith Lowery, 17, died Oct. 5, 2015, in Crescent City. He was born April 3, 1998, in Las Vegas, Nevada.
