Sandra A. Pappas
She was born November 6, 1952, in Crescent City. Sandra grew up in Klamath, attending the local elementary school, then moved to Crescent City and graduated from St. Joseph’s Grammar School and Del Norte County High School. She attended Shasta Junior College and San Francisco State College. Sandra returned to Crescent City and worked first at McKay’s Grocery Store and then at Del Norte County School District, where most recently she was librarian at Castle Rock Charter School. Sandra was always surrounded by loving friends and relatives.
Sandra was an avid fan of the University of Oregon Ducks. Her interests included U of O football games, gardening, sun-shine, and special times with family and friends. Sandra’s warmth and genuineness captivated all of her medical assistants at Stanford Medical Center. Sandra’s family was especially grateful for the loving cooperation of the Stanford medical staff in allowing Sandra and her family to enjoy Sandra’s last days in a beautiful garden with sunshine, flowers, lovely trees moving in the breezes, and hummingbirds flitting above her bed.
Surviving are her husband, John Pappas; daughters, Andrea and Kristie; father, Harry Wheat of Crescent City; brother, Wayne Wheat and Tisha Swortwood of Indian Wells; three nephews, Calvin and Ian Wheat, of Indian Wells, James Keeling, of Crescent City; niece, Marie Eggen of Sacramento; sisters-in-law, Martha Keeling and husband, Jim, Angela Wisdom and husband, Bill, and multitudes of loving friends.
On Sunday, May 23, a celebration of Sandi’s life will be held at the Crescent City Cultural Center, 1001 Front Street, Crescent City from 2 to 5 p.m. “In honor of Sandi, friends are encouraged to wear bright, casual clothing and flip-flops.”
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Sandra’s name to the Del Norte Scholarship Foundation, 275 Elk Valley Road, Crescent City, CA 95531.
