Dance at Veteran’s Hall Feb. 11

The Del Norte High School Music Department’s third annual Sweets and Treats Dance will be held from 7 to 10 p.m. on Feb. 11 at the Veteran’s Memorial Hall at 8th and H streets.

Featuring the high school’s stage band, this event provides an opportunity to learn to swing dance before more than two hours of dance music, including swing, polka, waltz, salsa.  The proceeds go to help fund the band’s  trip to the Reno Jazz Festival.

Tickets cost $10 each, $18 for a couple, $5 for students and are available from students, at Del Norte Office Supply, the high school’s music room and at the door.


Harbor Gallery activities

Crescent Harbor Gallery’s artist of the month for February is Carol Sovern, who has studied pottery with Larry Wasserman and Mike Selfridge, and painting and drawing with Virginia Brubaker.

A sampling of her work is currently on display, along with pieces by other gallery members. The demonstration artist is Elio Camacho, who usually packs the house and will create an oil in his flamboyant and impressionistic style.

His demo begins at noon Feb. 23, preceded by a potluck. For more information, visit 140 Marine Way, or call 464-9133.


‘Monologues’ auditions set

Auditions for parts in “The Vagina Monologues” will be Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. and Monday from 5 to 7 p.m. People interested in trying out should call 464-7072 and ask for Maxine or Kelley.

This play is 90 minutes of monologues that will be read by local women. These monologues are the accounts and memories of women who have had various experiences in their lives, some good and some not.

The play will be performed as follows with a third date to be announced:

• March 31, at College of the Redwoods. Tickets are on sale at CR campus for $10.

• April 7, at the Tolowa Event Center At Lucky 7 Casino. Tickets are on sale at Del Norte Office Supply for $10 per person. 


‘Cupid and Psyche’ opens

The Chetco Pelican Players production of “Cupid & Psyche” opens on Friday at the Chetco Playhouse in Brookings, and runs for three weekends.

 This romantic comedy adapted from an ancient Greek myth explores the double-edged sword of love and doubt, and has performances at 7:30 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. matinees on Sundays. There is also a special show at 7:30 p.m. on Valentine’s Day, Feb. 14.

Tickets cost $12 for general, $6 for students, and are available at Chetco Pharmacy, New Wave Video and Wright’s Custom Framing in Brookings. Reservations are recommended and can be made by calling (541) 469-1877.
