Dance concert Friday, Saturday Del Norte High School Dance presents its winter dance concert, “Sinful Indulgence,” at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday at Crescent Elk Auditorium. The concert will feature dances of opposition, relationships, the seven deadly sins, dreams and the circus, organizers said. A Comedy Night will be held at 9 p.m. Saturday at the Club 7 Sports Bar inside Lucky 7 Casino. The evening features fast-paced and energetic comedian Tom Howard, who has appeared at Catch A Rising Star (Las Vegas), Knuckleheads Comedy Club (Portland), and Laughs Unlimited (Sacramento), along with opening act Chris Castles, an Oregon comedian. The artist of the month for January at Crescent Harbor Gallery is Ruby Brewer Lucking. A native mid-southerner, Lucking currently resides in Crescent City, where she works in oil, watercolor, acrylic, bronze sculpture, ceramics, printmaking, pencil and markers. Her artwork is inspired by Monet and other artists of the impressionist and postimpressionist movements. A sampling of her work is currently on display, along with pieces by other gallery members. DNACA’s 20th annual Juried Multimedia Exhibition is the Art in Public Places show currently up in the Del Norte County Courthouse, featuring 14 unique works of art. A reception for the artists will be held in conjunction with a Chamber of Commerce mixer from 5 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 19, in the courthouse, at which awards will be given and refreshments served. Recognition went to Tom Moody for “Home Harbor” (acrylic, first place); Philip Wadsworth for “Pitigliano Italy” (acrylic, second place); Larry Depee for “Music Man” (digital photograph, third place) and “A Peaceful Moment” by Carol Schach (digital photograph, honorable mention). Brookings Harbor Community Theater’s youth production of “Pinocchio” opens Friday in the Harbor Performing Arts Center, 97900 Shopping Center Avenue in Brookings. “Pinocchio” will run for two weekends, with Friday and Saturday performances beginning at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday performances at 2 p.m. Tickets cost $8 for adults and $5 for youths under 18 and may be purchased at Wright’s Custom Frame Shop in Brookings, New Wave Video in Harbor, and at the door.
