Deadline to enter juried show soon
The Coast Redwoods Art Association’s 2013 annual National Juried Art Competition is accepting entry forms and fees for the show until next Thursday.
Artists 18 years or older may submit up to three artworks created within the last two years, and $1,000 in prize money will be given out. All two-dimensional art is welcome except film or digital photography (that show will be held in October).

Recology Del Norte needs old Tyvek envelopes for a recycled art project at the Smith River Days on Saturday and for some other upcoming projects.

‘Clue’ continues this weekend
Lighthouse Repertory Theatre’s summer musical “Clue” — based on the board game by Parker Brothers — continues at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday in Crescent Elk Auditorium. The closing show will be at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
There are 216 possible endings to the show, and each night will feature a different one. Tickets cost $12 for adults, $8 for seniors, children and students with ID, and can be purchased at Del Norte Office Supply and the door.
Orchestra’s annual meeting Aug. 18
The annual general meeting of the Curry/Del Norte Orchestra Guild will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday at the home of John and Fay Mathison in Brookings-Harbor. All members of the orchestra, orchestra guild, and associate members (supporters) are invited to attend. The meeting will be followed by a potluck dessert at 4 p.m.
Attendees will have the opportunity to meet the new director, John Webster, and say farewell to Gary DeRoest, who directed the orchestra over the past 12½ years. For directions to the Mathison home, call (541) 247-7210.
Pistol River concert Aug. 31
The Pistol River Concert Association presents singers/songwriters the Barn Birds at 8 p.m. on Aug. 31 in the Pistol River Friendship Hall.
Jonathan Byrd is known for his song-writing and charismatic stage presence; he is touring with Chris Kokesh, songwriter and fiddle player for the Americana band Misty River.

Harbor Gallery activities in August
Crescent Harbor Gallery’s artist of the month for August is Muriel Northrip, who creates in oil, acrylics, charcoal and pen and ink, and considers art to be her first love. A sampling of her work is currently on display, along with pieces by other gallery members.
The gallery’s “fourth Thursday” art demo will be held at noon on Aug. 22 preceded by a potluck at 11:15 a.m., when Audi Stanton will demonstrate painting in oil with a palette knife.
