Crescent City Art Walk

The summertime Crescent City Art Walk will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, June 29, in the downtown and harbor areas.

About 18 venues will be participating with artwork on display, refreshments and in some cases entertainment.

Art Program starts today

A free Summer Recycled Art Program will begin at 3 p.m. today at the Del Norte County Library.

Sponsored by Recology Del Norte and Julindra Recycling, the suggested age range for this program is 8–13. The program will then continue every other Thursday (July 5 and 19 and Aug. 2 and 16).

Gallery exhibit opens Tuesday

“The Carmel Collection,” depicting the architecture and scenic beauty of the Monterey Peninsula and Big Sur, opens Tuesday at High Ground Gallery in Crescent City Harbor.

Artist Laura Wiens will display more than 20 of her pieces for the exhibit, which will also be part of the Crescent City Art Walk on Friday, June 29, from 4 to 7 p.m. She grew up in Carmel and has displayed her work in galleries there since 2007.

She is also teaching beginning oil painting classes for adults and children at the gallery, 140-A Marine Way. It is open 1–5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. Call 719-494-9216 for more information.

 

LRT melodrama opens

Lighthouse Repertory Theatre’s summer melodrama, “Return, Back to the Melodrama, The Trilogy or The End of Time, Travel in 3.5D,” written and directed by Randy Mulinex, will have its opening performance at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at United Methodist Church, 664 H St.

Additional 6:30 p.m. performances will be held June 28-30 and July 5–7. There will also be a special 3 p.m. show July 4. Tickets cost $6 at the door. For more information, call 465-4730.

LRT needs volunteers to help with taking tickets, selling snacks and cleaning up after the shows. Those interested in helping — and who can arrive about an hour before the performance or stay afterwards – should call Jenny Young at (707) 954-8773.

 

Activities at Harbor Gallery

Crescent Harbor Gallery’s artist of the month for June is Kathy Huxley, an oil painter from Brookings. A sampling of her work is currently on display, along with pieces by other gallery members.

Gasquet artist Rick Bennett will give a watercolor demonstration beginning at noon next Thursday, June 28, preceded by a potluck. Bennett has worked in Del Norte County for well over half a century, and during that time taught art and art history to hundreds of high school and college students.

‘Boarding House’ opens Friday

Brookings Harbor Community Theater’s production of “The Boardinghouse,” opens Friday in the Harbor Performing Arts Center and runs for two weekends.

Friday and Saturday shows begin at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday matinees at 2 p.m. Tickets cost $10 general admission, $9 for seniors, $7 for students and are available at Wright’s Custom Framing in Brookings and New Wave Video in Harbor.

Exhibit up at courthouse

The Art in Public Places exhibit up in the Del Norte County Courthouse is a solo show of paintings by Crescent City artist Philip Wadsworth.
