Dance Art this weekend
The Dance Art Studio presents its annual concert, “iDance,” this weekend in Crescent Elk Auditorium. Performances are at 7 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday, and feature more than 150 dancers ages 3 to adults, covering the dance disciplines of ballet, tap, jazz acrobatics and children’s movement classes.
Tickets cost $6 for adults and $3 for children under 12 years of age, and are available at the studio, at 485 I St., and the door. For more information, call 464-6817.
High Ground Gallery in Crescent City Harbor is offering beginning oil painting workshops on Saturday mornings from 10 a.m. to noon. All materials are supplied and participants can take home their own still-life painting. The cost is $25.
After completing the workshop, participants can move on to a series of three weekly oil painting classes. The cost for the series is $60, which includes all materials. An afternoon of classical romance music featuring Soprano Sarah Benzinger, accompanied by pianist Nancy Correll is set for Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Crescent City United Methodist Church.
“Love Songs” will explore the theme of love in its many forms.
Benzinger teaches eighth grade math at Crescent Elk Middle School and holds a degree in vocal performance from Humboldt State University. She has been featured in Humboldt Light Opera Company productions and studies voice with Carol Ryder.
Correll holds a bachelor of arts in music from Humboldt State University, and served as staff accompanist for the HSU music department from 1975-2001. She currently teaches piano and voice in McKinleyville.

The Crescent Harbor Gallery artist of the month is Sharon Tanner, who works primarily in acrylic. A sampling of her work is on display through today, along with pieces by other gallery members.

The Art in Public Places exhibit up in the Del Norte County Courthouse is a solo show of paintings by Crescent City artist Philip Wadsworth.
The four winners of the “Staycation” raffle held this season by the Del Norte Association for Cultural Awareness were drawn at the Pure Prairie League performance on May 20.
Winners are Lisé Hamilton, Bill Herold, Bridget Holland and Troy Wilson. Prizes donated include a night’s stay at the Requa Inn, Battery Point Lighthouse, Whaleshead Beach Resort and Chateau at the Oregon Caves.
Brookings Harbor Community Theater’s production of the musical “Grease” concludes this weekend in the Harbor Performing Arts Center.
Performances will be held at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, and 2 p.m. Sunday. In addition, an understudy performance will be held Friday at 7:30 pm. Ticket prices range from $7 to $10 and can be purchased at Wright’s Custom Framing in Brookings, New Wave Video in Harbor, and at the door.
