The Breast Cancer Awareness Ride held on Saturday, Oct. 8, was a huge success.

With the support of Trek Bicycle Corporation and Sutter Coast Hospital, Back Country Bicycles played host to this national event. This was the third year that Tom and I have hosted the ride.

With perfect weather and great community involvement, we doubled the number of riders to 133 this year and raised a total of $4,625, all of which goes to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. We had riders from the Grants Pass-Medford area and Redding, as well as Brookings and Humboldt County.

The ride started and ended at Sunset High School where, after finishing a 10- or 25-mile course, the riders were treated to a grand lunch that included lasagna, salad, bread and a wonderful berry crisp and cookies made by the culinary arts students at Sunset and served by the local Girl Scout Troop.

Thanks to all for making this a successful event.
