Girls between the ages of 11 and 15 are learning how to professionally babysit thanks to some help from GP3, Del Norte County's Community Youth Center Initiative.
The organization stepped in to help students who wanted to sign up for a 12-hour babysitting course, but who couldn't afford to pay for it.
Del Norte Childcare Council staff teaches the course, which provides its students the information and skills they need to provide safe, responsible child care for children.
The course costs $45 and is certified by the American Red Cross. It is taught in three 4-hour parts.
"We had many requests for this training, but some students could not afford the class fee," said GP3 Coordinator Rosalie Leaberry. "GP3 sponsored the class so all interested students could receive this excellent training."
Among its course's components are first aid, child care responsibilities, decision making, problem solving and safety awareness.
Although the July class is full, more courses are planned next month.
