Many of our 4-H projects are up and going, while others are just getting started. Two of our biggest events, Presentation Day and Home Ec Day, are coming up at the end of February.

Presentation Day offers 4-H’ers the opportunity to develop communications skills. Contests include: demonstrations, illustrated talks, prepared speeches, PowerPoint presentations and tabletop displays.

4-H groups can also participate in share-the-fun and cultural arts. Giving presentations helps our youth develop many skills including the ability to speak in front of a group, organizing their ideas, and creating and using  graphics.

Any 4-H’er who earns a gold award on his or her presentation will be eligible to go to compete at Regional Presentation Day in Lake County.

Home Ec Day is held at the same time and place as Presentation Day, and is open to all 4-H members. Members can enter their projects in various classes:  nutritious cookies, favorite snack, decorated cake, appetizers/finger food, bread, arts and crafts, clothing, tablesetting/plan a party display, no-sew handmade item, crochet, home furnishing, quilting, food preservation, photography and leathercraft.

Classes are judged by community members.

Other activities that 4-H’ers can participate in at Presentation Day and Home Ec Day include a judging contest and skill-athon. 4-H’ers judge various project posters. For the skill-athon, 4-H’ers form teams of four and compete against each other in a knowledge bowl.

They are asked various questions about a variety of projects. Project leaders and parents may also form teams and compete against each other.

Also in February several 4-H’ers from Giddy Up N Goat and Wild River 4-H clubs will travel south to Cloverdale. Members will be exhibiting rabbits and cavies and participating in showmanship classes at the Cloverdale Citrus Fair.

If you have any questions or would like to know more about 4-H, call 707-464-4711 or talk to any 4-H volunteer.
