Special to the Triplicate

David Jacobs-Strain and Walker T. Ryan will perform at 8 p.m. April 21 at the Pistol River Friendship Hall.

The concert is sponsored by the Pistol River Concert Association.

Bluesman David Jacobs-Strain emerged from the rain soaked mountains of western Oregon storming the festival circuit as a dynamic blues prodigy. Like a diesel powerhouse of raw energy, David speeds across the landscape of country blues to the earthbound grooves of the Mississippi Delta, with his driving slide guitar and fervent vocals.

Walker T. Ryan started playing guitar and singing when he was 13. He came at the blues from the roots up. Raised on the West Coast, he wound up in New York City and cut his teeth in Greenwich Village. It was during these formative years that Walker heard the living bluesmen that would most influence his own work: Lightnin Hopkins, Mississippi Fred McDowell, and Son House.

Thirteen years ago, Walker T. became blues mentor to David, then 9. A couple of years ago, David produced Walker's first recording in many years, "Underdog American Music," and encouraged him to get out on the road again. Don't miss this opportunity to hear the blues, old and new, at its very best.

Tickets are $15.00 and available at Mory's and Words and Pictures in Brookings and at Gold Beach Books in Gold Beach. Tickets also may be reserved online at
