Vicki Ozaki, co-chair of the Redwood Coast Tsunami Work Group, congratulates Darrell Moorehead on receiving a Community Service Award for his work in promoting tsunami awareness on the North Coast. This year, he participated in a Ford Family Foundation Leadership project that placed signs in local harbors describing the tsunami damage suffered last March and what to do should an event like the one in Japan occur here. In addition to educating people on the dangers of tsunamis, Darrell has 22 years of service with Smith River Fire Protection District. As assistant fire chief, he is actively involved in planning for and responding to all sorts of local calamities, not just the tsunami threat.
