Consider Chetco River for beginning kayaking

The Chetco River near Brookings makes a great kayaking destination. The river starts just 55 miles to the east in the Kalmiopsis Wilder-ness. Teresa Strasheim, owner of the Riverside Market on North Bank Chetco Road near Brookings, where both single and tandem kayaks can be rented, said paddling down the lower stretch of the Chet-co is a great trip for beginners. The Riverside Market offers shuttle service for paddlers who want to start upriver at Loeb State Park or even farther.
