Cassandra DeVaul married Dominick Avila at Florence Keller Park May 19. The couple chose their wedding date to honor the bride's brother's birthday. DeVaul's brother, Jordan Hartje, died in 2001.

The couple's friend, Chris Jackson, performed the ceremony. DeVaul and Avila are from Smith River.

The bride graduated from Del Norte High School in 2004. She works at home raising the couple's son, Connor. She is the daughter of Cecilia Barron of Susanville and Doug DeVaul of St. George, Utah.

The groom also graduated from Del Norte High School in 2004. One year later, he graduated from Universal Technical Institute with an Associate's degree in automotive technology.

He works at Quick Lube in Crescent City and is finishing a Correctional Officer training course enabling him to work at Pelican Bay State Prison.

He is the son of Steve and Veronica Avila of Smith River.

The Avilas plan a June honeymoon, after which they will settle in Crescent City of Smith River.
