Editor’s note: The Del Norte 4-H column appears every four weeks. Today’s column was written by Christine Jones and Val Machado.
This year three Del Norte County 4-H’ers received Fieg Tucker Scholarships. All three scholarship recipients are members of Pine Grove 4-H.
Congratulations to Martin Anderson, $500; Andrew Napier, $1,000; and Jessica Weldon, $500.
Wild River 4-H and Giddy Up ‘N’ Goat 4-H Community Clubs are teaming up to bring the first petting zoo of the year to Spring Daze, held at Parkway Feed on April 28.
The petting zoo will be open from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., and 4-H members are planning on bringing a variety of farm animals for people to visit, pet and learn about.
Petting zoos offer 4-H members the chance to share their hard work and commitment to their project animals, as well as help educate the general public about the uses, history and details of different animals. The community enjoys having a hands-on opportunity to learn about the wonderful things animals can do as well as where many everyday products come from.
Also at the same event Wild River and Giddy Up ’N’ Goat will be hosting a bake sale to raise funds for show supplies. Both the petting zoo and bake sale have been planned and will be manned by our 4-H members. By participating in these activities, members learn about scheduling work shifts, working together, safety protocol, public relations and many other life skills that will stay with them as they mature into successful adults.
Please join us to help kick off spring!
