Fair seeks more funds for project

The Del Norte County Fairgrounds received a grant last month to refurbish the portable stage that is used at the fairgrounds and throughout the county.

Fair Manager Randy Hatfield said the portable stage is in disrepair and the grant will go a long way toward getting it back into shape.

Improvements will consist of new lighting and wiring, replacing tires, overhauling the brakes, replacing the floor, and repairing damage to the body and painting.

The fair acquired the stage in 1980 for $50,000. To replace the stage now would cost more than $100,000.

The $6,000 grant was made possible by the Andrew and Bertha Pon Memorial Fund, and the Agnes and Kenneth Ogilvie Memorial Fund, both funds of the Humboldt Area Foundation.

The fair is looking for additional donations to help with the project. For information call 707-464-9556.
