College of the Redwoods is holding an elementary speech tournament for fourth through eighth graders at 8:30 p.m. April 28.
The tournament is open to students from all Del Norte County schools. The tournament will involve two competition categories: original speech and interpretive speech.

Interpretive speech is a story, nursery rhyme or poem a person recites from memory of an author's work, in which notes may not be used.
Judges will listen and evaluate speeches in three rounds. Prizes will be awarded to all speech participants. Registration is from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. April 28 at the college. Snack food is available for a nominal cost.
