Ex-Gasquet man returns to perform with the orchestra

 Morgan O’Shaughnessey The recent graduate of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music will be performing Max Bruch’s Kol Nidrei, Op. 47 for viola and orchestra. O’Shaughnessey, who grew up in Gasquet, returns home to perform once again with the Curry/Del Norte Orchestra after five years of intensive musical studies at both Michigan’s Interlochen Arts Academy and the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, where he studied with David Holland and Jodi Levitz. An active soloist and pioneer of new music, O’Shaughnessey has presented numerous recitals and premiered over two dozen solo viola works in the last four years, and has recently begun developing a side career as a seven-string electric violinist. He will perform the program on a rare viola made in 1953 by Vincenzo Cavani of Spilamberto, Italy, which is on loan from Joan Balter of Berkeley. The upcoming performances of the Curry/Del Norte Orchestra will be in Crescent City, Brookings and Gold Beach. Dates and locations are: • Crescent City, Sunday afternoon, Dec. 4, 3 p.m., Elk Valley Rancheria, 2332 Howland Hill Road. • Brookings, Monday, Dec. 5, 7:30 p.m., Trinity Lutheran Church, 1200 Easy St. 8 Gold Beach, Saturday, Dec. 3, 7:30 p.m., Bethany Lutheran Church, 94190 5th St. Admission costs $10 for adults. Students through grade 12 will be admitted free. Ticket outlets include Gold Beach Books in Gold Beach, Del Norte Office Supply in Crescent City, and Wright’s Art Supply in Brookings. Tickets will also be available at the door. The Curry/Del Norte Orchestra is sponsored by the Curry/Del Norte Orchestra Guild, Southwestern Oregon Community College and orchestra patrons living on the Southern Oregon and Northern California coasts. Orchestra members are all local musicians who volunteer their time and talents. |
