Volunteers help in sprucing up of community space
In all, 15 volunteers turned out to build garden boxes, haul soil and lay weed barriers and pathways. Submitted Are you interested in gardening at the Wellness Center and Garden for the 2012 growing season?
Individuals and families can sign up for a garden box by calling or stopping by the Del Norte Health Access Assistance Program office. Garden space is limited. Any community member is welcome to sign up to garden at no charge.
Meanwhile, the Del Norte Healthcare District, Del Norte Community
Health Center and the Health Access Assistance Program would like to
extend a huge thanks to the community members and clinic staff who
volunteered at the Wellness Center and Garden workday on Saturday, June
2.
Fifteen volunteers turned out with garden tools and cordless drills
from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. to build garden boxes, haul soil and lay weed
barriers and pathways.
Members of the Spetzler family, from left, Erika, Gary and Emily, help with the work. Submitted At the end of the day the Wellness Center and Garden boasted 10
additional garden beds for individual gardeners and three new “big
garden beds” for crops such as potatoes and pumpkins, to be shared by
the gardeners.
We also finished shelving and garden beds for inside our 30-foot greenhouse.
Without the hard work, generosity and dedication of our community,
this project wouldn’t be possible. Thank you to everyone who has
contributed so far.
But our project isn’t complete yet! We will be hosting additional
work days in the coming weeks. If you would like to volunteer to help
expand the garden or install our playground, call Del Norte Health
Access Assistance Program at (707) 465-1988, or stop by the office
inside the Wellness Center, suite 200, to be added to our volunteer
contact list.
Hope to see you in the garden!
