Dietician leads Monday class on eating healthy with diabetesSutter Coast Hospital’s Diabetes Education and Support is bringing back its popular Super Market Savvy class Monday. Led by Linda Zia, a registered dietician, the class will go over the best foods to buy for diabetes aisle-by-aisle in the grocery store. It will be from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Del Norte Senior Center, 1765 Northcrest Drive. The class is free; no registration is required. For more information, call 464-8662 and select option 2.
Recipes sought for upcoming contest at the Farmers Market
The Network for a Healthy California’s Rethink Your Drink campaign is launching the summer season with a contest to promote drinking water over sugary drinks. The public is invited to submit recipes for water infused with fruit, vegetables and herbs with no added sugar (also give a name for the concoction) to Program Director Deborah Kravitz at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it Rethink Your Drink will have a booth at the first Crescent City Farmers Market on June 2 at the fairgrounds with infused water for the public to sample and vote for their favorite. A winner will be selected that day. Campaign organizers will then be at the Health Fair on June 9 at the fairgrounds with samples of the winning recipes, Rethink Your Drink information and giveaways. Those who submit an infused water recipe should bring the ingredients to the Rethink Your Drink booth at the Farmers Market by 9 a.m. Water and containers will be provided. There will be prizes for top recipes.
Schedule low-cost lab tests for the June 9 Health Fair
Sutter Coast Hospital will offer low-cost lab tests at the Health Fair on June 9 starting at 7:30 a.m. Call Vanessa Schaub at 464-3191 ext. 272 to schedule lab draws. Tests available are: • CHEM panel test for glucose, kidney function, electrolytes and liver function. • Lipid panel test for cholesterol, triglycerides and good cholesterol. • CBC test for anemia, infection, etc. • PSA test for prostrate cancer screening for males only. • TSH test for thyroid function screening. • GLYCO test for diabetes screening. Prices are $5 per test or $10 for prostrate screening. Anyone choosing to have the CHEM panel or a lipid panel cannot eat or drink anything after midnight prior to the test. The Health Fair will be June 9 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the fairgrounds. |
