Following today’s Deck Party hosted by the Crescent City/Del Norte County Chamber of Commerce, DJ Scratch Eklektik will open for the Chiefs with reggae, hip-hop and dance tunes at 8 p.m. at the lodge’s After-Deck Party and Elks membership drive at 359 H St. The Joint Chiefs will take the stage with their signature funk-driven psychedelic jams around 9:30 p.m. Doors open at 7 p.m.
It will be the Chiefs’ second After-Deck Party at the Elks Lodge, according to Chiefs guitarist and Triplicate photographer Bryant Anderson.
“It’s always nice to play for old friends who are in town for the Fourth,” Anderson said.
In addition to Anderson, the Joint Chiefs include drummer Tom Boylan, guitarist Bob Tiernan, bassist Ross Morgan and vocalist Adam Spencer.
Referring to the band’s rotating members, Spencer, who is also a Triplicate reporter and has been singing with the group since 2012, says the Joint Chiefs are “more like an idea than a group. We’re just vehicles to help spread the spirit of the Chiefs.”
The After-Deck Party is for folks who are 21 and older. Seating is limited and admission is $10 per person. The proceeds will benefit the Elks Lodge and its programs.
On Saturday at 9:30 p.m. the band will also have its debut performance at Brookings’ recently opened Oxenfre Public House, 631 Chetco Ave., the reincarnation of the Pine Cone Tavern, where the Chiefs frequently performed.
