Kindergarten registration dates set |
Triplicate staff Parents and guardians of children entering kindergarten this September are asked to pre-register their eligible children according to the following schedule. Those unable to do so must contact the school office to make other arrangements. Parents and guardians must bring with them at registration the child's birth certificate, immunization records and two written proofs of residency. Two forms of identification can include a California driver's license or identification card, the first page of a GTE statement, rental or lease agreement, mortgage statement, property tax statement, homeowners or renters insurance statement, page one of a PP&L statement, cable statement, bank statement or major credit card statement. Children must be at least 5 on or before Dec. 2, 2007. Parents are asked to bring a birth certificate or other legal document to verify birth date and an immunization record. Kindergarten for the following schools registration will be held: Bess Maxwell 9 a.m.-3 p.m., April 10 Joe Hamilton 9 a.m.-3 p.m., April 23 Margaret Keating 7:30 a.m.-4 p.m., April 23-27 and 5:30-6:30 p.m. April 25 Mary Peacock 9 a.m.-noon and 1-3 p.m. April 18 Mountain 8 a.m.-noon., April 23-27 Pine Grove 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m., April 25 Redwood 9 a.m.-3 p.m., April 23-27 Smith River, 9 a.m.-3 p.m., April 23-27 Getting Immunizations Parents registering their children for school are required to show the child's immunization record. The record must include the child's name and birth date, and type and date of each dose of vaccine. The following immunizations are required for kindergarten in California: Polio Four doses at any age meet the requirement. Three doses meet the requirement if at least one was given on or after the fourth birthday. DPT (diphtheria, pertussis, tetanus) Five doses at any age meet the requirement. Four doses meet the requirement if at least one was given on or after the fourth birthday. MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) Two doses of measles-containing vaccine, at least one of which must be MMR. Both must be received on or after the first birthday. Hepatitis B Three doses are required. Varicella (chicken pox) One dose of varicella vaccine is required, or documentation by a health care provider that the child has had the disease. Children's immunizations are available for free from the Del Norte County Health Department, 1-2:45 p.m. Tuesday, 5-6 p.m. the first and third Wednesday of the month, and 9-10:45 a.m. Thursdays. No appointment is needed. The department is located at 880 Northcrest Drive. |
