Five members of an honor guard made up of correctional officers from Pelican Bay State Prison returned recently from Washington, D.C.

They attended the Correctional Peace Officers Foundation’s Project 2000, an event that took place at the National Peace Officer’s Memorial Park, near the Capitol.
The local correctional officers taking part included Lt. Rick Graves, Sgt. Mike Wolf, Ken Royal,Amanda Hernandez and Renelle Chisman.
They attended a convention at the Hyatt Regency hotel in Crystal City, near Arlington, Va., and also visited sites including the White House.
The event honored corrections officers killed in the line of duty last year, including three in Texas.
More officers were killed in the line of duty last year than any other year since the creation of the CPOF in 1984, according to Lt. Graves.
None was an officer at Pelican Bay.
The foundation is not a political action group or committee of any kind, nor is it affiliated with any political action group or committee of any kind, nor is it involved in any collective bargaining issues with any employee groups, associations and/or administrations.
